Congregational Care Nursing is a Ministry of Cornerstone United Methodist Church that focuses on the well being of individuals, families, our church congregation, and our community. When Jesus sent out his disciples, he gave them a mandate to preach, teach, and heal. The Congregational Care Ministry program is a healing mission and presence within our faith community.
Our Congregational Care Nurses are best described as a church based consultant, teacher, and minister. Congregational Care nursing is not a procedure-oriented “hands-on” nursing. Instead, they serve primarily as a vital link between the faith community and the world of medicine, helping to supplement and coordinate existing care.
The Congregational Care Ministry Program is coordinated by Registered Nurses who have received specialized training in the area of Congregational / Faith Community Nursing.
The role of the Congregational Care Nurse includes:
- Health Educator
- Personal Health Counselor
- Referral Agent and Liaison with Community Health Organizations
- Coordinator of Volunteers
- Developer of Support Groups
- Health Advocate
Our Congregational Care Nurses are:
- Susan Peevy, RN
- Linda Dickerson, RN, BS
Both have attended the Congregational Nurse Preparation Course sponsored by Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University and have met the educational and professional criteria for Congregational Care Nursing as established by the International Parish Nurse Research Center.
They bring with them many years experience of clinical and educational nursing and are assisted by other nurses and health care professionals who serve also as volunteers.
The Congregational Care Nursing office is located on the office wing of the church in Room Three (across from the church office).
