Policies and Procedures

Safe Sanctuary: A policy that is implemented for the safety of the children at Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

  • All workers must have a background check done and on record.
  • There must be two approved adults present at all times during the program.
  • The approved adults must be at least 18 years of age and 5 years older than the group he/she is working with (in a supervisor/charge position).
  • Ratio of children to adults:
    • Nursery: 4:1
    • 2-year-olds: 6:1
    • 3-year-olds: 7:1
    • 4-year-olds through 5th grade: 8:1
    • 6th through 12th grades: 12:1
  • A hall monitor is there to assist volunteers and paid workers by making sure that the hallways are safe. They cannot take the place of an adult in a classroom with only one adult.
  • All outside doors are monitored and no doors may be left propped open.
  • General safety in the building is important, making sure that all equipment is in good working order and there are no hazards that could harm adults or children.
  • Teachers and volunteers must have current certification in CPR and First Aid.

An entire copy of safe sanctuary policies will be posted on the web site soon. Until then you can obtain a copy at the church office.
